Wild game dinner

I got this press release from the Talladega Superspeedway.

Third Annual Chevrolet/Alabama Wildlife Federation Wild Game Cook-Off At Talladega Superspeedway Set For Feb. 9

TALLADEGA, Ala. – Much like the opening weekend of deer season holds a special place in the minds of hunters, so does the second weekend in February hold a special place in the minds of wild game cooks. This year the third annual Chevrolet/Alabama Wildlife Federation (AWF) Wild Game Cook-Off at Talladega Superspeedway is set for Saturday, Feb. 9 in the track’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series garage. The event will be open to the public from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., and will feature taste testing of savory wild game recipes, unique auction items combining the worlds of outdoors and motorsports, great door prizes and more!

In addition to delicious food and fellowship with outdoors enthusiasts, a major highlight of the day will be the chance to take a ride around the historic 2.66-mile tri-oval race track to raise additional funds for AWF. Rides around Talladega Superspeedway will be from 3 to 4:30 p.m. and will be sold for $50 each to the first 150 cook-off ticket holders who purchase them in advance. Each ride also qualifies the purchaser for a drawing for one 6-lap Superspeedway teaser with the Dale Jarrett Racing Adventure

“The wild game cook-off is an event we look forward to every year,” said Talladega Superspeedway President Rick Humphrey. “We are no stranger to competition here at the track and I can tell you that the cook-off brings out the best in each of the teams. I would like to encourage outdoor enthusiasts and race fans alike to come out and sample the unique dishes that the teams create. All proceeds support conservation in Alabama, so get your tickets early and treat yourself to an exciting ride around Talladega Superspeedway.”

Visitors are encouraged to arrive early in order to check out all of the creative displays and sample all of the delicious wild game dishes offered by the teams set up throughout the garage. The center aisle of the garage will again feature an array of spectacular and unique silent auction items, attractively displayed for browsing as guests sample the delicious food.

“What a breathtaking environment to have a wild game cook-off event, with all the cook teams lined up in the Sprint Cup Series garage with the race track as their backdrop,” said AWF Wild Game Cook-Off Coordinator Jimmy Harris. “With this wonderful partnership, we can bring NASCAR enthusiasts and wildlife enthusiasts together for a mutual cause and have a lot of fun in the process.”

Cook-off judging is set for 3:30 p.m. and winners will be announced at 6:00 p.m. Teams are allowed to enter one dish in one of the following categories: fish, fowl or game. First, second and third place awards will be presented in each category. A Best Overall Award will be presented to the entry with the highest score, which automatically qualifies that team to enter the State Finals competition at the AWF headquarters in Millbrook, AL at a later date.

Tickets to attend the Chevrolet AWF Wild Game Cook-Off are $40 per person, or $50 per couple when purchased prior to the event. To purchase tickets, pre-order rides around the track or participate as a cook team call Alabama Wildlife Federation at 1-800-822-9453 or visit their website at www.alabamawildlife.org.

All proceeds from the event will benefit AWF, the oldest and largest non-profit conservation organization in Alabama. The AWF was established by sportsmen in 1935 to promote the conservation and wise use of our wildlife and natural resources and to ensure a high quality of life for future generations of Alabamians. The organization holds wild game cook-offs throughout the state, however this statewide event is its largest fundraiser each year.
